Hlee is an entrepreneur & community storytelle Having worked in media production for more than 15 years, she launched the other media group in order to create an entity that would offer production services to community-centric organizations and initiatives, but also to build an environment for other artists and storytellers of color to be able to create and be paid for their work.
She is a photographer, media producer, radio host, program manager, and organizational guru with a passion for community storytelling. Hlee’s dedication to community-oriented stories began when she benefited from such programs at Twin Cities Public Television’s Don’t Believe The Hype (a show by and for youth of color), ThreeSixty Journalism, and programming at In Progress. She learned that though everyone has their own story and their own journey, those not from the dominant culture rarely get the opportunity to share their stories on their own terms. Through this experience, she was not only introduced to the production world, but also the world of diverse storytelling and organizing; understanding that everyone has their own story and their own journey, and those who are not from the dominant culture rarely get their stories told by the mainstream media.
A true Minnesotan, Hlee is an avid fisher and camper. She also enjoys traveling and sharing stories across the world. Hlee currently resides in Saint Paul, Minnesota with her husband, Jim, and their furbaby Lily (who has her Instagram account @LilyKronMN).
